Polluted White Dwarfs and Compositions of Extrasolar Minor Planets

It is now widely accepted that many polluted white dwarfs are accreting from disrupted extrasolar minor planets. As a result, high-resolution spectroscopic observations of polluted white dwarfs provide a unique way to determine the chemical compositions of the accreting material. In this talk, I will discuss different kinds of planetary compositions that have been discovered and outline some challenges, specifically for finding exocomets. I will also discuss some recent developments for the white dwarf with a disintegrating asteroid WD 1145+017 and how it has changed our view of polluted white dwarf systems.
