Compositions of exocomets: a disk perspective

How will the compositions of exocomets compare to those of our solar system? How and when do our own comets form from the protosolar nebula, and what is this material’s chemical history? I will review chemistry during planet formation, including open questions surrounding the role of interstellar inheritance versus chemical reset by processes within the protoplanetary disk, and what clues are available from studies of isotope ratios. I will also discuss current and future observational constraints on disk chemistry, in particular with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array.
